HOSPITAL ETIQUETTE

I like this article regarding hospital etiquette, written by zuhaila sedek, nst on august 26, 2009.

Things to remember when visiting:

  1. Do not wear too much perfume.
  2. If you do bring a gift of food, do not eat any of it. Don't eat the patient food either.
  3. When you greet the patient, take his hand gently. Never hug. Most people do not like to be touched, especially if they have undergone surgery.
  4. Be polite and stand if there are not enough chairs. You are only going to be there for a short time.
  5. Never sit on the bed: it cramps the patient.
  6. Only talk about happy situations not about bad news. never talk about illnesses or operations.
  7. Don't diagnose. Don ply him with questions such as, "Why are you so pale?", "I cannot find your pulse", "Are you sure your case is not a terminal one?". leave that to the doctors.
  8. Bring vases when you bring flowers and arrange them in the room yourself. Nurses are busy most of the time. Make sure that the patients are not allergic to the flowers.
  9. Give the doctor some space and go out of the ward when he examines the patient.
  10. Remember that the main point of your visit is to cheer the patient up.

TABLE SETTING

This is an example of table setting for set menu..which contain few courses from appetizer to dessert..

just a review: use the cutlery from outside to inside..beverages will always be on your right side and your side plate (bb plate and bb knife) on your left side, and the upper cutlery for dessert. salt and pepper shaker (salt-with one hole, pepper- more than one)..napkin to be placed on your lap..advisable turn the napkin to triangle and place it on your lap...

DEMOSTRATION...NOT AGAIN....

i wonder what is wrong with malaysian...is it the attitude or is it the system that is bothering them...

yesterday, once again, the demonstrators were there, in the street of jalan tunku abdul rahman....fighting for their right.....are they really fighting for their right or they are just the follower and didnt know anything about what going on around them???gush, and sadly, 99% of the protestors were malays....but the leader, as i can see on the tv were from the other races, those who gave the speech that day...is like something wrong with the scenario...if the leader comes from the other races, then why there were only minority of them in the pictures???? quite ackward right...something to think about....

i m not against those who wants to fight for their right...if you think that you should, go ahead but please.....consider all the people around you...watching the news tonight and listening to the mantan and leaders give their comments towards the issue, it really make sense....these demonstrator give a bad impact to our hospitality and tourism especially...those people who sell their goods along really being affected by the event...rm100m-rm200m...it make sense....for those who didnt really know, they might think that this figure being pick up from the sky, but if you really look into it, it make sense...for example, secret recipe at sogo..i believed that they have a great lost yesterday..not to be forgotten, all the boutique such as gulatis, jakel, ariyani, all the shopping complexes, hotels, and more than 500 shops along the road.....please, have pity to these people....

what the impact to the state and country?? bad reputation, maybe decrease of income from the tourist, H1N1 already one of the issue, and now another event....of couse, this will give an image to the country....our prime minister suggested that these people used the stadium instead of the street...yah, why not???the state being rule by the opposition and i believed it will not be a problem and at the same time it will decrease the number of people being captured and maybe none...some are the innocence one, i believe..

moral from the story, what ever our agenda is, please think about others and respect others space...and for the rest, please think before you act....you have the right to fight for your right...definitely, but if you do it in a correct and well planned way, it will be a successful one and being respected by others....

customer service in Malaysia

I went to a cinema to watch TRANSFORMERS, at Jusco Seberang Prai...wow, it was a great movie...don't even have time to go to the ladies...but then what i want to comment is regarding to the customer service in MALAYSIA..

the problem with our local people is the way they used to treat their customer...if we look into any customer service book, it is recommended to greet and acknowledge the customer with the formal title, miss, mdm, sir, puan, tuan, cik....but in the real environment, the front personnel/ customer service personnel love to used kak, abang, adik.....i really have problem with that...why cant these people treat us the same as the outside tourist? when they see the outsider, they can use the proper title, but not with the local people, especially if you are malay customer....i wonder why...i dont have any blood ties with the personnel, why must they acknowledge me like that???? sometimes, it feels that i m getting older when they acknowledge me with akak title...hello....i don't really like it...

hopefully the management out there will remind their employees about these. these situations usually occur in the counter for buying the ticket for cinema, public transport, stalls and other few palces...if we really want to upgrade our hospitality in Malaysia...this will be 1 of the challenge that you have to deal with....
